FCSSBC & Volunteer BC Volunteer Management Workshop: Volunteer Management with a Pandemic Lens (2 Day Workshop)

There is no denying that volunteers and volunteerism form the backbone of many communities. Our societies are better off because of their contribution​s.

While the value and impact of volunteerism has not changed, the way we serve our communities and manage volunteers during the pandemic (and beyond) certainly has. Community needs have shifted and policies and procedures must adapt.

This two-part workshop, offered in partnership with Volunteer BC, will focus on two key aspects of volunteer management: (1) planning a volunteer program and (2) volunteer recruitment and retention.

In these sessions, the pandemic will act as a lens, providing background and context. We’ll discuss how to design volunteer programs that respond to community needs in times of crisis, and how we can recruit and retain volunteers while keeping health and safety a priority.

We are in a unique position to not only highlight the importance of volunteers during the pandemic, but also to explore how service delivery has changed, and what that means for volunteer engagement.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is limited to 35 participants.

This workshop is supported by funding from the Community Social Services Training Fund—an initiative by the Province of British Columbia to respond to the training and development needs of those who work with some of BC’s most vulnerable people. Learn more about these other initiatives here.

Workshop Structure

This two-part workshop series will take place in 3-hour virtual synchronous seminars over a two-week period. Attendance in both sessions is mandatory and required for certificate of completion.

  • Monday, June 7th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PST)
  • Monday, June 14th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PST)

These workshops are best suited for non-profit professionals who manage volunteers. The content is tailored for small- and medium-sized organizations with no (or limited) volunteer management resources.

The trainer is the General Manager of a non-profit organization, holds a MEd, and brings over 20 years of experience in the field of volunteer management with a particular interest in community development, facilitation, and program and policy planning.
